You don't need to be a history buff to rejoice in the fact that Barrie's Allandale train station may soon look more like the photo above (taken in 1910) than the one below.
The station was built in 1904, but has become an eyesore since it stopped seeing train service in the 1980s. (photo at right from here)
Architects and restoration professionals are expected to be on site beginning immediately, with work continuing through the winter. The restoration is just part of a $50-million project that will include a GO train station, stores, offices, public arts and cultural spaces, a new YMCA and a condo/hotel. - Caleigh
